Healing Our Hidden Hurts

What if the places in our lives that won’t heal are connected to wounds we can’t see?

What if you love Jesus, trust His promises, pray for healing—and yet there’s an area of your life that just doesn’t seem to get better? Scripture tells us we are body, soul and spirit, intricately connected. Sometimes what we know to be true in our minds hasn’t quite reached the wounded places in our hearts.

In this episode of The UPside Conversations, I sit down with Christian therapist and author Craig A. Miller, who has spent decades exploring the connection between emotional wounds, faith and physical suffering. Craig believes unresolved hurts can continue influencing us long after the original experience has passed. As he explains, “That hurt can scream louder than what your mind knows to be true.”

But this conversation isn't simply about uncovering old pain—it’s about finding a path toward freedom and healing. Craig shares practical ways to identify the emotion beneath what we’re experiencing, trace it back to its source, invite God into that wounded place, and begin releasing what we may have carried for years. His message is filled with hope: healing can happen in layers because our wounds often happened in layers, too.

Perhaps there are places within us we’ve learned to live with—anxiety, grief, rejection, fear or hurts we thought we had put behind us. Craig’s work invites us to ask a different question: What if God wants to meet us there, too? As we explore the hidden places of the heart, we may discover that Jesus desires to restore us more completely—body, soul and spirit.
