This fall, my Highlander Studios partner, Russell, and I attended the Faith in Entertainment Guild (FIEG) gathering in Brentwood, Tennessee — an inspiring space where filmmakers, producers, and creatives come together to advocate, educate, and collaborate in the world of faith-based media. FIEG’s mission to uplift Christian storytellers, provide mentorship, and foster authentic connection reminds us that creativity truly flourishes in community.
One of the most powerful moments came from filmmaker and author DeVon Franklin, whose keynote challenged us to remain rock solid with God before pursuing our dreams. He spoke about keeping faith non-negotiable — setting boundaries like honoring the Sabbath, trusting God’s process through rejection and delay, and choosing to “act on faith, not fear.” DeVon also reminded us that the faith-based audience is far larger and more diverse than Hollywood often recognizes — a truth that fuels our passion at Highlander Studios to create redemptive, world-class storytelling.
We were also inspired by filmmaker Justin Trevor Winters, who encouraged creators to “never get out of the business of learning.” His session, Reimagining Storytelling: The Intersection of Creativity, Technology, and Faith, showcased how tools like AI can enhance — not replace —artistic excellence when guided by purpose and discernment. At Highlander Studios, we share that conviction. As we prepare to launch our new talk show and podcast, The Upside: Conversations that Light UP the World, we’re more committed than ever to blending timeless truth with innovative storytelling that inspires hope, healing, and transformation.
